No luck. Waves were 2 feet high at Park Point. It was better at the Lester but there were no run. We stayed until 1:30am and only saw maybe 30-40 smelts combined between everyone there, that I can tell.

We got to the lester last night at 9:30pm. No smelty smell, so I was concerned. Got in and and got started and very little action all evening. My son and I managed to pull about a 1/2 gallon or so and left at 12:30am.
The most excitement came from 2 different guys that caught some steelhead in their nets. And I caught a 28" lamprey. Man those things are ugly!!! I would have been happier with a trout!!!
My guess is that the water temps cooled down too much to keep the hot action going (which was sat thru tues). They will continue to trickle in like last night until things warm again, and then they will have one last big push. Hopefully I'll be there for it. Or, my timing was just poor last night. Things could have always heated up at 2 in the morning, and no one was there or no one posted anything about it. We were there for only 3 hours of the entire night, so who knows.
I guess that ugly lamprey pretty much summed up the run last night. But we still got enough for a fresh dinner today!! Sorry, that lamprey won't see any beer batter!!

hey dudes, I've been a lurker for the last couple years and have decided to finally post. I did well on the 21st, got all I wanted. Last night was at my place near Schroeder and decided to try the Temperance, expected at least a few drunk locals, but not a soul. Had the beach to myself and had all the smelt I wanted (about 10 lbs) in less than 2 hrs. And I didn't have to work that hard. And did I say I had the place to myself? Heaven...also unreal. I'll be lurking again next year.

Steve, hearing your info now is like being kicked square in the package! All everyone on this site is looking for is current and relevant info so we can make good decisions on when to head up and give it our best shot.
Info of success more than a week ago really hurts to hear now. Especially the type of success you were having. OUCH! The runs on the rivers really only last for 8-10 days so we really needed this info last Sat.
We appreciate it anyway, it's the timing of it that causes the pain because you are probably correct. We will be lucky to see anymore then the tail end of the run on the lower shore. If people want to look forward to any descent success one should consider chasing them up the shore to places like the Temperance or Beaver Bay, Baptism, Etc (courtesy of the lurker). I'm sure the Point will continue for a while as well, but it sounds like the Lester is probably done.

Went to park point last night waves were about 5 1/2 feet high so went up north shore. Lester was running high, hard and dark so headed up farther and found up to the stewart waves were only a foot when we arrived. When we left they were coming in about 2 1/2 to 3 feet and no smelt yet. Did talk to one person who said he got about 60 the night before in about hour and half. Stopped at lester on way home and talked to acouple of people but nothing by 11:00 so we left and had better luck at casino.

Thanks for posting clark138. I guess with this bad weather, the smelt run had either come to a halt or an end. I hope we still have the rest of this week to the run before the season is over.

Made 2 trips this season - the Fiday before Easter and this past Saturday night 4/30. On good Friday we had about 1 gallon with a sein net and 1 more gallon at the Lester. On 4/30 we drove home with 7 smelt. Pretty disappointing. Really curious if anyone made the drive up to Temperance on Sat night. We were really tempted but decided against it. Better luck next year, unless some posts heat up here....
