Just got back from Ashland this morning. We got 3+ coolers between 5 seiners and several people/kids picking the smelt. A lot of fun!

Anybody hear anything over the weekend as far as the Lester or other Rivers? I was expecting a 4 page report from DominoDave to already be posted this morning! lol!!
Since he has not reported...my guess is that he is still up there camping out all week long to save his spot...or his computer is dead!

No dipping here woodtick! I figured I would let someone else update things over the weekend. But....................
I got that "feeling" today, that the little tasties will make their appearence tonight with the lovely weather we had today and last night..... so I just might make the run up tonight for a bit and check things out. Want to roadtrip together?

Woodtick, you were right, and so was that feeling of mine!!!
I'm all covered with eggs as I type out this update. There were at least a 100 people at the lester tonight, everyone doing well too. When I got out of my car I could smell them bigtime, when taking them out of the dip nets, they were squirting eggs all over the place. The females were ripe bigtime!
I got to the Lester a bit late tonight. I almost didn't go. 10:30ish. They were already in full swing, I was pulling about a gallon every 20 minutes, I left at 12:30ish with 4 gallons after things slowed down a bit, but they were still catching them.
I heard that things picked up Sunday night, and were even better tonight, Monday. Most pulls were at least one and up to 12 or so. A real nice evening. About as good as it gets. Make your plans and don't miss the fun everyone. The point is cranking right now, I heard reports of people getting 35-50 gallons an evening there.
P.S. This smelting thing has turned into a real multicultural event nowadays!! People from all over the place not speaking any english. It would be nice to be able to have a conversation with the person next to you once in a while. Right Woodtick.....Wish you there!!!

Wow!!! Even the DNR fishing report is reporting they are running right now. They are usually the last to the party, and reporting what already has happened. The run must be as good as I was thinking it was. With it starting this late, it should be short but sweet!!! Don't miss it.

Thanks for the update DD, happy to hear you did well!
We would love the chance to go up mid week...but its not in the cards. Looks like we will be up there this Saturday in the pouring rain...that should be interesting!

Hit the lester last night..I should have turned back when I saw a dozen nutzo's SURFING..That's right just like Wide World of Sports in Hawaii, surf boards and all. Anyway scooped from 8:45 to 10:45. Got 1 Smelt & left, the current would change direction with the waves, it was a battle..Snow Wind & rain, maybe they came in later, but I had to throw up the white flag last night...

Schmelty, you are a brave soul! I think Thursday night might be a good time to try again. Hopefully it won't be too late then.

The weather might dampen things down a bit for a couple of days. Wind, cold, snow never makes things happen faster that's for sure. I'm thinking fri evening will be good with some sun on thur and fri, and a few days away from the rain, hopefully the rivers won't be running too wild.

The Wx report they gave two weeks ago, has held accurate, so I'm still sticking with my earlier prediction of things getting going 4/29 to 5/2. But sometimes those little buggers don't get the memo, OR read the boards, and go rogue! Anyway...I am committed to Saturday eve with my crew and looking forward to whatever happens! Unless of course, there are surfers out there. Not sure if I have a license for them or not...and have no idea how they taste beer battered. DominoDave...you know the Drill...look for me in my cowboy hat and my bartender will pour ya a Rum!

Woodtick, my son has prom on Sat. And so does a number of my employees so I am stuck having to work on that night. So stop by on your way up, we are right off the interstate behind McDonalds. It's the best stop on the way up anyway.
So my son and I are headed up tonight. Hopefully, we will hit them right this evening. I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of current info from people this year. Usually we get all kinds of stories both good and bad. But none this year. I know there has to be more than 4 of us that are posting, and dipping. Come on people, we need some more info, I feel like we are running on a prayer and flying blind here this year.
I'm sure we haven't missed the peak yet, but there should be some solid action this week by now.
See ya soon.

Agreed! We need as much info as possible.
Here's one from another forum that I use from last night at about 11pm: "Ok back to actual reports. Very slow at the airport, tot lot and Lester tonight. Lets hope tomorrows warm weather brings them back."
I just might try my luck tonight at Park Point...We'll see. If I do, I will update the results as soon as I can.

I called Marine General and got an update from them. They said that the run has been real good all week. The cold weather has not slowed them down at all. He was referring to the Lester.
