Hey guys. I'm heading up tonight to PP. I was wondering if I should go to the break wall or somewhere else? I'm not sure what tot is. Thanks a bunch! Hopefully my christensen net can catch me some tonight.

Mrfishy, I was right in front of tot lot last night. And did very well 2 full coolers in a very short time. Everyone around us were doing well also. Heard that toward the breakwall was not doing that great.

hows this friday looking for the lester and where is park point?i have relatives in duluth area so thinking about making the trek up from st paul this weekend, possibly friday after work.did the lester a few years back but got skunked.read here you can catch the in the lake at park point with a long net which i'm accustomed to in lake superior in the ontonagon area which we always got quite a few at a mouth a river.at park point do you just go out on the beach as far as you can in your chest waders and dip like that, don't have a net so just wondering. Mopar fanatic, I made the switch from river dip nets this past year, into the beach areas of park point etc. Lester and park point are totally different games. In my experience, dip nets are rarely as in almost NEVER effective outside of using them in the rivers. I have run a dip net on park point (which is a long stretch of beach) at the same time along side guys puling 25 foot seines. Rhey pulled in three or more GALLONS of smelt, while i got three or four smelt.... Yep it can be that bad! On the other hand I have run dip nets in the rivers, at places such as lester, and have gotten gallons of smelt on the same night the people running seine at park point, only pulled in 15 smelt all night. My advice would be that unless you are ready to go all in, i.e. putting in the money for a good seine (i.e. a Christiansen seine) and also drag a couple of you buddies along with to help, you might want to save yourself the frustration and stick to the rivers and dip nets. The rivers are a lot of fun. You might not get the mother load of smelt, but it is still a GREAT time. The people on the point are more often the "all or nothing crew".... They are looking to fill up their bathtubs with smelt back home, rather than just a bucket of smelt goodness to add to the fridge and freezer. (no offense park point crew... my son and I are joining you more often each year ... even though you are all a little bit crazy Re: where is park point: Park point refers to most anything past the lift bridge all the way out to the airport and beyond. Hope this helps.

At the tot lot do you pull on the beach side or on the bay side? I'm not familiar with the area so I'm afraid to go to other's private properties.

You pull on the beach side. We only pulled for an hour from 9:00-10:00 and ended up with seven gallons. Had a 25 foot Christiansen net with the "smelting " pocket.
