Lester report 4/28 Tuesday, the run was pretty good. People were catching a lot of 1's and 2's with a few more than that sometimes. Most everybody caught enough for a few meals.
Lester report 4/29 Wednesday, Since the local word was out there was a lot of people out last night (100+). But with the rain and wind blowing in hard, they were not running very good. When the rain fell hard everyone dipped under the bridge to stay dry. The waves were breaking close to shore so you could not get to many of the better spots to dip. One here one there. I got there at dark and left at 11:30pm, it was slow the entire time. It didn't smell fishy yet so we have not missed the main run yet. The fishy smell comes from all the eggs laid in the river and mouth that get stuck on the rocks and gravel. I didn't see any eggs at all on rocks yet. The smelt caught so far are the smaller males that come in early in the run so we are close. A sunny day or 2 and they will be in big time. We have had some nice weather down here, but up there the wind has been off the lake keeping things cooler than the surrounding area. Just a few more degrees in the water and bingo! Be ready people, they are running behind, and when they finally go it won't last real long. The run is just beginning to go. I stopped by the Pointe, and I can happily say that nobody was foolish enough to try and be out in those big rollers breaking 5-50 yards from shore. The waves are forecasted to lay down for the rest of the week. I'm sure they will be hauling them in on the Pointe every night this weekend.
