Smelt came in fast just after sundown. Swimming thru and avoiding nets. Better netters were averaging a gallon a pull all up and down the shore. Not much wind nor currents. Looks like it already peaked under ice,we had mostly bigger fish with females dropping eggs all over us and covering our gears. Probably wont last very long. Died off around midnight when winds stopped. Park point.

Has anyone noticed that this year's smelt is diseased? I've noticed that quite a few of them have bumpy white spots on them. Does anyone have an answer on this?

Season is done.most females are spawned out. Afew still firm.so likely stragglers to be had on both ends of beach for next week both at wall and Wisconsin point. But overall its done.

I'm not so sure it's done! The Lester produced well last night! And if things continue to warm up like forecast, this week will be good!
Especially the beaches if that southerly wind can actually make it down to the lake level!
A slow taper could last quite a while! Not all fish spawn at the same time! Its natures way of spreading out spawning success!

Run started at tot lot at 9:30 we fished till 11:30 got 6 gallons. Got a good beating by the waves but it was fun. 90 percent females most were spawned out. I don’t think it’s over but we are on the downhill side.

It is not over, maybe it is in Wis. I was on the Beach Saturday night, and it was a hay day. We all caught fish, it started right at dusk. A few test nets went in and came back empty. So we waited 10 minutes and went in with our first netting and BOOM we started dropping SILVER into the cooler. 95% females with spawn. Lots of friendly excited people. It was an awaking into my soul... That's how much fun I had! Took home all we needed. Drove by the Lester and it looked tempting on our way to Lutsen. Lots of rivers to dip into. Thanks for all the tips on this Blog, it really helped. Special shout out to Smelt Master...
Thanks Damon

Breakwall was very slow last night. Very calm and no waves. Only got one bucket. Heard other groups were doing better down the beach. We left at 11 and hit the Lester. They ran well! Started to pick up after 12am. Filled three buckets in 20 minutes. It's definitely not over yet.
