Any more report on Ashland? Ashland website: Smelt Report: April 29, 2019: It was another great night smelting Chequamegon Bay last night. Smelt brought in seem to be even more than the night before. We are not sure on the times at night or during the night that they were pulling them in but it was a good night smelting. They have a mind of their own so it’s a wait and see on the future of the smelt run.

I was in Ashland just east of the Bayview Park Saturday 4/27/19 until midnight. The water was cold, definitely not 40 degree. We caught around 40 smelts enough for Sunday's dinner. All around me and I can hear people on the pier loudly that people were getting a few here and there. We got kids so we left at midnight. The smelt report for that night does not go with what I have observed unless the smelt was running after midnight. Thanks for this website, it is valuable to communicate so can hit the right timing because some of us are limited in time.

Sounds like in Ashland it’s starting to run but in pockets. In my experience, 50 yards between groups makes a huge difference due to the rough and rocky lake floor.
It might be next week at the earliest for PP. This week’s forecast is primarily in the upper 30s. Please keep us all posted on any attempts in the coming weeks!

The word on Ashland is that they are running.....BUT....not for everyone, and certainly not everywhere in Ashland. Some guys have access to some secret spots and private spots that produce a ridiculous amount of smelt up there. So they have plenty to sell. BUT don't think that there is something you are missing, or they are fake reports, or people pulling your leg. Now, as for the masses getting them in public spots in Ashland...that's a hit or miss thing from my experience, and for others on this site. There are a few good spots, and some people have alluded to them in previous posts. But this is not like PP where they have 7 miles of sandy beach to work and chase smelt around. So dampen your expectations on Ashland unless you got an in somewhere or get lucky on a spot or the right night.
Now for Park Point, yes that ice looks like it will take a beating over the next few days. But temps and clouds will keep things from warming much. But if the winds do break it up, and the winds turn to the SW on Sat like forecasted, and a little sun, my money says they will be in there regardless of coolish waters! Lets all pray that does happen!
And for the Lester. A friend says that they are getting more smelters than smelt! But since it's the only game in Duluth right now... I understand that urge to dip and try. So good luck if you go...I'm still being horribly tortured with my patience and will wait a few more days.
