Suggestions on rods/line/reels for fishing North Shore

Have never fished the north shore but would like to start trying it with my son.     I want to pick up 2 spinning rods.  I'm looking for recommendations on the following:

Rods:    ( have heard Okuma SST 9' med or 10'6" med are good, also Lamiglass X-11 9'6" med are good )

               Other brand or model.   Is there a length and stiffness you really like for Floats or casting sthingys?

Line:      What line LB. do you generally prefer?  .......  Mono/Braid/Flouro?  .......   Color?


Reels:     spinning reels..... A 2000 / 3000 / 4000 series?


Lastly..... is there any sthingy/spinner/lure that really works well,  size or weight,  color for casting

Thanks to everyone for the help....... spent all day thursday exploreing 8 differant spots along the north shore. Tons of extremely helpful fisherman who were willing to stop fishing and give us tips/suggestions/ guidance. Had a great day. Today my son used his new knowledge and went back and tried out what we learned...... and it was a great day, a couple nice loopers and several Steelhead!!! He will hit it a few more times this week before we start our first crack at Smelting!!! See you out there!!
