Seems a bit early for the smelt run, anyone know if ice flows are done on the big lake? With rain expected this weekend, we may see some at the rivers next week? ;D

We were hoping to hear a little chatter about dipping the Lester. There are a few of us that are anxious to get up that way this weekend, but hate to make the 3 hr drive just to go stand in a cold river. Anyone seeing anything at all there or nearby?? Thanks!

We just got a bunch of rain so the water is probably too high and fast for a while now.

Doesn't that "warm" rain kick up the river temps? they hit the 40+ degree mark the smelt should run....

The smelt are unpredictable... it has nothing to do with water temps you are all wrong... it has to do with whether or not the tiger sharks push them into the shore! Duh!

The rain will warm up the water, but even if the temp is right, there is no way smelt can enter the river when it is running that high and fast.

The rivers are at 40F, the lake is in the low to mid 30's and Ashland is at 41F.
The Warden thinks this weekend 'might' be the start, with next weekend peaking on the run. Not sure if the DNR Warden gave the Smelt that itinerary!

Sounds like the weather is going to make the next week or two real tough. Flooding rains can't be good for dipping in the rivers. I'm heading out tonight to Park Point and the Lester. I'll give you an update by morning. It may be futile, but I think I'll give a go before the weather makes even more futile.
