We went another 45 minutes at Stewart. Started catching at the same rate again. We ended up with a little over 30 fish. We then went up to Gooseberry at 12:30am. Once we got there, kids were wiped out, so we didn't fish there.

My group was out at the break wall last night. Started around 9pm and ended at about 1:30am. Got 5gallons. They were running thin. About 10 smelt per pull. Our best pull about 30 in one pull. Waves were great. Wind blowing away from the beach so almost no waves. Waves picked up as it got later. Went to lester after to check it out and found some guys did pretty good. A guy had one cooler full. Others had a few 5g bucket full. We got about another 3gallons before ending the night. Over all pretty slow night for our group. Hope the rivers start running better soon as weather warms up.

Well, no one could come out and play...so I went out solo! Can report that the waves at the Point last night kept the smelt from showing, and the smelters from smelting, they got a few but not good. So I checked out the Lester. Couple dozen folks working real hard. Jumped in and got a few as well. Nothing special, 1 or 2 per 6 dips....so I was thinking....I headed up the road a bit, a small creek, not sure if its even named, but the flow was down a lot, and the smelt were in there. Not so much at the mouth, got a few there, but this guy was there running around in his tennis shoes all excited because he could see them swimming in the water only 6-12" inches deep! So I went up through the culvert to the 1st little 12" water drop. Scooped under it and came up with 2+ gallons! Had to walk back and grab a bucket, filled it with only a couple more scoops! So I helped out the guy with his bucket and a couple more of mine and found a plastic bag and filled it too! All this in only inches of water! Amazing. Tougher getting it all back to the van than filling them. I will post pics in morning!
Still running just fine in the rivers!
But I'm now done for the season. It's been great, I think everyone has gotten their fair share this year! I know I have. I will still post what I hear and answer any questions if I can. Thanks everyone!

A couple notes, the harbor area at the Lester was a lot deeper than I thought it would be. With some big rocks too, so it was tough. Most action was near the mouth or just outside of it. Big waves coming in that made things not much fun there either. But the flow was down quite a bit, but still pretty murky. Here is what I caught in about 20 min or so. A guy gave me a big sucker for my smoker too. I also saw a couple Loopers caught and released. Attachments:

Here's what I caught up the road. The water was very clear, you could see them swimming and catch them from shore. The guy there with me had his shoes and pants all wet up to his knees, burrrr! All this in only minutes! Plus the other guys bucket too! Attachments:

Diminodaves, how far up from lester river? Is the smelt run over now or still going?

In my opinion, it's still going good. The Lester was producing, so I'm sure that as the water levels drop further and clear up more that they might run even better there.
I hate to give any specific info on the spot, since it's so small. It's just a creek without a name and very treacherous getting up and down. There are literally dozens if not hundreds like it along the shore.
I think the clear water had a lot to do with it. But the reality is that they are still running in the Lester. If you work it, you will be rewarded. I'm just not sure on how long yet. My bet is this is the last week for the southern rivers, maybe a bit more for the ones way up the shore. I heard a report that some people were filling coolers at the Lester only a couple days ago, that's why I went to check out the conditions, and give it one last hurrah! I hate to report that without first hand knowledge, so take that for what it is. Good luck.

I just have a seine, and I don't know if I wanna invest in a couple dip nets. Is there anywhere to seine besides thDuluth to seine. like on the north shore somewhere? Cuz I think park point is done running for the year.I heard that there might be somewhere by knife river to seine but I don't know how true that is. Any info would be great! I would like to go out a couple more times

Pull 3 2, pull 4 ten.... and the night went that way. Best was 25 . Frying up about 40 on the beach now. Females eggs real sloppy.
In Ashland....no one else we saw did better than us. For what its worth, any one we talked to didn't kill them last night either. (Unlike the posts we read )
