Shouldn't be to long now. Smelt has already begun on the superior side of Canada/Michigan and that starts the flow to wis and than mn.

no more than 2, 5 gal. buckets.1 would be nice.looking to net ourselfs,its more to us than just the smelt.im the only senior that did this before and had some luck.

Got 2 buckets of smelt last night on Grindstone Lake in Sandstone MN, Does anyone know of any other lakes besides Superior and Grindstone?

It’s about an hour south of Duluth, we used dip nets but seen a couple people using sein

There are more than 20 lakes in Minnesota and more than 20 lakes in Wisconsin that have smelt all of which would be dramatically affected by a surge of smelters due to posts on social media or internet forums. Most of these lakes are quite small in size.

The difference is that superior is a large lake that can handle the pressure. Obviously your not old enough to remember how good panfishing used to be before a couple million people started destroying them year round.

Everyone knows about grindstone for years. Most of us prefer the superior smelt. If you want names of smelt like just ask ain't no secret Lmao
