I would like to see how this actually works out. Lake and stream access is PUBLIC once your on the water all are equal are the police going to be checking ID's? and what is the probable cause for them to ask, and the necessary response to them. Unless you are detained a person has no obligation to respond to a LE officers questioning.
So locals are treated different based on ? Zip code? Plate number on the Vehicle? how they look? seems like a ton of rumors so far. I may go and challenge some of these assumptions. I think they could enforce no parking for non locals, after that is would likely be unenforceable. unless I get detained by LE and be compelled to give my name and address.

At this point if you havent noticed all the nurses pleading for help and all the people that are dying in new york maybe everyone should just respect the cities wishes and stay home. Why spread this virus any further, its everyones responsibility to help with this. Large crowds means a large amount of people have the potential to be infected and then bring this crap to more people to be infected. If you value your family and friends stay home and find a spot to fish around there were there isnt a large crowd.

Hello everyone! I'm back. And, as I have always said, every year is different! This year..... it will be Covid! Last year it was ice 25' high! Always something! I'm not sure we can or should try and win this one this year! The local communities up there are scared to death of a bunch of city folks rushing up into their towns and bringing this scourge! Can you blame them? I cannot!
As my call name says...yes, I'm in the pizza business. We are doing everything we can to keep our staffs safe, and our customers too! So I'm in the middle of the fire too! That's why I'm so late to the forum this year!
So here's my take. If you have a nice quiet spot, private or not, count yourself lucky! If you don't, and you usually use the PP beach or the Lester while driving from the cities...please use your best judgement. I don't think smelt are worth the risk at this point!
However, the stay at home order here in MN will expire April 10, unless extended. And, the early ice melt usually provides an unpredictable run. I would not expect the run this year to be very productive until at least April 15th at the earliest. And any bad winds, cold weather, sewage in the bay at Ashland, crap like that could change the smelts plan! So, try and plan on using some friends that are local for your smelt requirements...you know who you are guys! LMAO!!!
But, be patient, keep asking questions, watching reports, make calls, and be ready in case there is a reprieve!
Stay safe and germ aware!

CAN SOMEONE IN DULUTH CHECK WITH LOCAL LAW TO SEE IF SMELTING IS GONNA BE BAN. ALOT OF ASIANS LIKE TO GATHER UP THERE If you're going to be that ignorant, you should just stay home and lock yourself inside and never come out to see the light of day! According to the Duluth News Tribune today....Ashland is banning all smelting and Duluth is enforcing "local residents" only. They sat Law Enforcement will be present and telling people to leave. Locals that can come need to still be in groups of less than 10 and practice social distancing.
