Warm weather here in the cities but Duluth seems to be a bit cold compare to us still. To the people checking out park point/Ashland this weekend, good luck and keep us all update.

I got a obsessive compulsive disorder itch needs to get scratched bad. as do many of my pals. only will be cured by cold water and stinky fish sloshing around in my car after repeated sleepless nights for days on end.... man cant wait to get on beach. my kid came to me, made me promise we would go smelting soon. .... i got new nets i need to evaluate for new season, so i will likely be somewhere regardless of fish or no fish.

Some random words of advice.... 1. Make sure your family knows you want them to help you clean the smelt you catch BEFORE you go smelting!! It never works the other way around!!! 2. Make sure to tell your buddies who want you to bring them back some smelt.. the same thing you told your family! 3. Re. Cleaning smelt .... After gutting the smelt, take one more step and Wipe out or scrape out, any “black” mater you find along the backbone... This is the source of a strong the “gamey” taste. (Learned this from a northern MN fire department smelt fry crew)

Anglers All said too much ice to try last night. 61, sunny, good SW wind right now, same on deck tomorrow but pushing 70. The guys held off last night and skipping tonight but will try tomorrow night. Another member here is going to try as well tomorrow. Water temps are getting close.

Hi guys, the last time I was in Duluth smelt fishing was many years ago when I took my two sons. They were 10 and 7 I think. Well I'm retired now and I have the strong desire to head up to my favorite city Duluth and see if I can catch a few smelt. I am waiting for someone to give us a good report on how the smelt run is doing. It is suppose to be very warm this weekend so I thought this could be the start. If some one could let me know if the smelt are here. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Hey Domino! I'm just going out to buy PVC poles for setting up my new Christiansen net today. I'll buy them 5 feet long and 2 inch dia. with domed caps. Do I want to drill these top and bottom and tie right next to the side of the net and use a few zip ties in between top and bottom?.....or do I want to leave a gap between the side of the net and where it attaches to the pole? The pictures on page 3 of last years forum shows a large gap between the pole and the net.
