Hello i'm new to seining and was wondering what people use for pole i see wood, metal, and pvc poles. so i was looking for some pros and cons other have had with them or just what others like so i have a good idea where to go with mine. Also do you tie the seine tight to the pole or have it hang off the poles a bit. Any info would be great. thanks.

I use 3" maple poles that I debarked. Same as my folks did years ago. I left the net about a foot from the poles. Seems to work great but always curious about other ways. Good luck!

I use two different sized pieces of PVC one inside the other to make them stiffer. I have a cap on the top and drilled holes in the bottom cap for the water to drain. I should be able to post the rest of the photos in my next post.

I should be able to post the rest of the photos in my nest post. I use ropes that go over my shoulder and down my back to assist in pulling the seine. The poles are 6' 6" tall and the net it's tied close to the poles, that seems to work best for me. Attachments:

Thought I would push this to the top for the start of the 2018 Smelting posts. It’s a pole system that continues to work well for me year after year. Take care, BD110

I've been using PVC poles for many years. Never had to alter adjust or change a thing. I will say this. I like having them a bit shorter than 6', so that I can easily reach the top of them with one hand to hold them down to contact the bottom. So mine are like 5' 4"s or so. And using a back robe to do the pulling while walking backwards is a must!!! Your back, shoulders, arms and hands will thank you!!!

How long is the rope you attach for pulling?

You just have to give it a try and see what you need but i think about 6 foot should be enough
