OK, as promised, here is the report from Saturday 5/2/09 on the Lester.
It was a great night to be out! No wind, a very warm mid 40's, and we went home with fish. It was not any record busting night for us or any others who were out, but it was still a good night overall. We had 4 of us up there and 2 were rookies, and still ended up 4 gallons, maybe 5. Lots of pulling and empty nets....and LOTs of ones and twos. It was a good pull to get 3 or 4. Through the night, the most I pulled was I net of about 12 to 14, and on three occasions, I pulled 8 or 9. Although I did pick up a 4 pound Nothern in one dip!!
Lots of fun people there and good weather made it a good night besides small numbers of fish. DominoDave showed up with his dad and son and it was fun to get to meet and fish out there with them. He is a card! All in all, its certainly worth a trip up, but an unpredictable year. Not sure if they will begin to run in numbers soon, or if they will trickle in like Saturday night.
Keep the reports coming everyone! This is a fabulous resource for us all and will only work as well as we work it! Good Luck and happy eating!!

Report; Friday May 1, got to the Lester @ 10PM with a "Virgin" smelter..Calm, warm no waves to push. 2-2 1/2 hours of dippin' resulted into 90 with 2/3 of them males. Waiters leaked, dip net broke (really working the rocks).
Sunday, same conditions, no virgins, 3 "seasoned" schhmelters, new waiters, repaired dip net, very slow start, however around 10:30 we started hitting 5-12 per dip ended up with a good "pile" in the bottom of the cooler, left around 12, still didn't seem like people were doing that well, although I could tell the females are in...I would think tonight & Tues would be peak..I have my fill & won't be back till next year..bummer...best of luck all you smelt heads, keep up the good reports..
