Has anyone ever tried Bono creek?? I was there a few years back, and remember it having a nice beach. I stopped there last year, and the water had the beach completely covered. Same this year, as I just looked this evening. Does the water fluctuate that much?? Thanks for any input.

Good Morning, I live in Chicago and used to fish our lakefront 20-30 years ago. I would like to know if locals use the "trolly and gill net method of smelt fishing in the Superior/Duluth area ?

Getting antsy boys. Moved to Madison, WI this last fall but wouldn't miss a run. Will be waiting for the "greenlight" to head back north!

hi Master of Smelt I am planning do smelt netting this year. This is completely new thing to me . I have not done this before. What do you recommend in term of preparation and where to go , when ? Please let me know if you could . I am living in the Twin Cites area by the way, Liam Get a net 4x25 with a pocket, bring extra clothes, coolers & buckets, waders, things like this. Oh i almost forgot beer is a must have! For places to go, anywhere on park point to wis point is all good.

My guess is Around the 15th of April people should start seeing a few. It's MN and Lake Superior, and the weather can be notoriously frustrating like last years NE winds that never gave up! A late winter storm could push things back. And big warm up might move things up, but I would think that it would only move things a couple days in either direction for some early successes this year. I would guess that the big push or peak will be late April...say around the 25th or so. Usually Ashland goes 1st and Park Point will be a day or so later. But this year might be the 1st that I can remember it being reversed. Kind of weird seeing Ashland all locked up in thick ice, and the beaches of Park Point are bare with open water. I'm sure that Douggar agrees, since he already pointed that out earlier. Nice to hear from all you. I can't wait to share some beers with guys on the beaches and in the rivers! Thanks for the feedback Dave, Every year you show great sportsmanship looking forward to share a beer with you this year. Chang

A lot of folks find this forum and make it a favorite. Which is awesome of course. But what you really should do is make this link your favorite, alakesuperiorfishingcharter.com/smelt.htm , which has excellent info on it that helps a guy out. Including links to webcams. It also has a straight shot to this forum. Hope that helps! The beach cam is now showing big piles of ice on shore. But the lake looks very nice otherwise! I miss the old days. I can't do it any more ( bad back ). Do you know where I can get a couple pounds to eat. Thanks George vnvspider@hotmail.com

Hello all! Nice to see some of you guys are already on this topic. From the Webcams, Looks like lake superior is all thawed out already. The weather man says the water temp is 37 degrees today so maybe sometime in april we should start seeing these smelts. Can't wait to smelt the first one "smelling like cucumber"...
