That warm spell that we had kind of came to a grinding halt! Now the cooler weather seems to be ruling the roost. But the sun angle is now so high in the sky that the water will warm anyway. Any fresh smelt that you have been seeing in the stores is likely coming from other great lakes. But it won't be long now, our turn will be here shortly....

That's the million dollar question. My guess is YES BUT! Yes, I'm reasonably sure we will be getting some by the 15th. But it will likely be a hit or miss period. Early run reports go something like this...."they started just after dark, we got a couple gallons, then they shut down by 10:30. Still enough for a couple meals!" The good news is that the area is getting some good springtime rains and snows. This will help the rivers flow good and the dippers should be much happier this year!
But the 1st place that they will be running in the Duluth area will be on the beaches of Park Point. With the rains and warmer weather, all that ice looks to be gone on the beaches now. At least that's what the beach cam shows! So sampling can begin! But my money will be a trickle beginning somewhere near the 9-10th. And slooooowly picking up from there!

Not yet, thinking we might make a few test pulls later next week. Forecast doesn't look good.
