Well I got called out tonight by a buddy that wanted a few gallons. The waves where awsome!!!! Love that and I guess the smelt do to. Good mix of males and females. Three pulls and we had his five gallons. Good thing cuz I probly had five gallons of water in the waders after the first pull. Now that's smelting boys and girls. Good luck out there.

Penguin, mind sharing where you and your buddy were smelting? We all would really appreciate hearing that

Don't mess with mother nature or she'll give you a beating...I was at park point, by the rotating light. We got 4 smelt before we called it a night at midnight. Let's just say out of the 5 guys that went only 2 came back dry. There were us and another group that braved the pounding waves to get those boogers. Maybe another night.. Where did you go to get your 5 gallon penguin?

Yup yup & yup! the waves were extremely great and strong last night. my son and i arrived at park point at around 10 pm. we work so hard against the waves and our pulls gave us about 8 gallons but our waders were also full of water. it was cold and freezing so we left the point at around midnight when it started to rain.

Hello everyone!!! Sorry I left out some info about lastnight. We arrived at the Park point at around ten pm and did our smelting next to the Duluth entry along the pier on the beach. This is where I smelt every season. I'm the guy that usually has the burning log (hand warmer). Goodluck out there.

Sounds like they got them pretty descent last night, if you were willing to let a few waves crest over your head!
Steven, what part of the Point were you on?
Ceopheng....you have to be frustrated, you just can't seem to be in the right place at the right time! Been there too!
Did anyone check out the lester last night?

I was at Park Point last night. Waves were bigger than what I would like to Smelt in. Pulled two times with a Christensen net with a sock in it, and got no Smelts at all. We decided to wait and watched others net for Smelt. They had smiliar results until 11:30 pm. So we just called it quits and drove back to the cities.
At this point, I am unsure if Smelts are still running or not in the Duluth area. Can it be over already? I heard from a very reliable source that the Smelt was running hard last week on Mon. Tues. and Wed. I even saw pictures of the Smelt they got which was 35 white 5 gallon buckets filled to the top with Smelt. Pictures were also dated by the camera.

Could everyone that is listing Park Point as a destination please also list what part of the point they were on? It's a very large and long place that can have huge differences in success in different spots. The usual places or distinction's are:
Tot lot, which is the 1st parking lot on left after crossing the bridge. Duluth Entry Seawall, which is right by the bridge. The Park, Airport, which is at the end of the road by the flashing light that is part of the sky harbor airport.
This would help everyone out with fewer questions.

My plan was to come up tonight to work the Point. But my buddy had to pull out due to family duties. So I'm in the need for a puller....anyone interested?

Do you guys think the waves are doable tonight? I thought about coming back up, but I was just there last night with no success. You guys think it will be worth it tonight?

The waves have let up big time. The wind is from the west for now, and the temp warmed up too. The weather will be like Sat evening, and I think it should be good, some people did real well last night, and I don't see any reason why they won't still be in! Click on the upper right side of the main blue screen on cams, and then click the beach cam, and check the waves out yourself...
