Biggest pull was a quarter bucket. Calling it a night. Left with half a 5gal bucket. Maybe rebounding from the cold weather.

Dipped at Lester from 9-1030, caught a few maybe couple dozen. 90% males.
Went to airport to meet a friend and try out seining, saw one group with a full pale. We caught some, 10-12 being best pull, most males. Went back to Lester 1-145, caught a handful more and headed out.
No one else I spoke to did well at Lester either.
Very slow! I'm very confused about this year. Hopefully domino dave's right and another push will happen when it warms up. Had a fun time learning to seine!
Not sure if this is allowed or not, but would love to buy two pails if anyone has!

Yes it is if you look in the regulation under lake superior and its tributaries you can find everything you need to know about it. Here is the page from the mn fishing regulations handbook.

sandburr; You just made my day. Thanks for putting this out. It's great for those of us who might not get there this season. Your traditions need to keep going. at 70; I can still taste my first smelt head. Thanks I appreciate that! Again Domino has help train me to be a better smelter!

Last night at the beach we end up with four 5 gallon buckets from 9-12:30. It was hard work but decent rewards.

Lol...it ain't over! No way! Not on PP! On a normal year we get at least 3 weeks of a decent run on PP. And early spring years...4 weeks. We are barely 2 weeks in...so I don't think we have seen a peak yet. Much less a taper. This cold weather shut things down for a bit. But I believe we have a lot more good days ahead!
The Lester, is much different. The peak there lasts but a night or 3, with a quick end. So we could be on the downside there already. But...I'd bet that with the cold...the peak will be flattened out too. So who knows! I will bet on my experience. Good honest reports will help us all with answers we need to make good decisions! So thanks for those who do so!

At the lift bridge 5 tries with an umbrella net got 6 in total 1 female 5 males. Not as warm as we hoped but thought we’d try for the snow comes. That’ll slow em down. Beach is pretty dark two sets in the water not much for whooping so they must be having the same “LUCK” as us. The airport however looks lit up might take a drive and see what’s up. Then to the Lester just for curiosity sake. Post later tuber side down everyone be safe.

Was at the field tonight. 1) Run is over. OR 2) Will rebound after the cold front. We'll see.

Slow on WI point tonight. 3-6 fish per pull. Lots of suckers. One every other pull. Not sure what to think about the run. On pause for now.

Does anyone know if it’s a good idea to go to park point tonight I’m coming from Hibbing. I hate to run all that way to get nothing

We were at park point last night from 9-12. Kept the seine running the whole time. Spot checked, 3/4 males 1/4 female. All where "green". Not a loose one in the bunch. I expect next weekend will be good.
