When northwoods? We were there til 11:20 and the only ones crazy enough to stay more than 10 minutes tonight? We finally called it a night at 11:20. Might try Thursday night, the point if the weather and reports are favorable.

I left about 9:30. Probably 1/2 dozen people at 8:30. Everyone left and I was the last man standing. I didnt think anyone else would show up and I didnt want to get clipped by random log floating down the river. Late next saturday is the next time i can get up there.

Yeah, chunks of wood 2' to whole tree length were an issue tonight both coming down the river and washing in on the waves if you wee close enough to the mouth of the river.

Made the run on Saturday night (14th) with 2 buddies from the cities. 1 of them a first timer. When we hit the beach at Park Point at 11:30pm there were fires every 20 yards. Expectations were high! Everyone we talked to was pulling up and heading home. We decided to get our stuff on and jump in the water anyway. We pulled from midnight to 1am with an average of 25 per pull. Then at 1 am they absolutely turned off. We ended up with 2 1/2 gallons and were happy with our catch. Drove over to the lester and there was lots of cars, no smelt. Good time was had by all. Thanks to everyone for posting, it was a blast.

I did hear the WI point did well on Sat evening as well. But that was from 2nd hand info on the beach. But it would make sense since it's the same sand bar basically. I also heard it was very busy over there too!
I was looking at the wave cam on the Point. It looks like the wind has shifted, and the waves have let up quite a bit! Anybody planning on being out at the Point or Lester tonight? Reports are key now! I'm curious if the debris has returned to the Point, and I'm sure the Lester is blowing out hard...but an update would be good.

Any reports from yesterday? Are the Smelt still running? I would like to get out tonight if possible and try for some Smelt. I was wondering if it was still worth it to drive up there from the cities or is Smelting pretty much over with for this season?

WI Point I heard was a bust on Saturday night. People were getting 1 to 5 Smelts per pull all night. Most people had left by 11:30 pm.

I was at the point, tot lot, on Sat evening and for most is was pretty slow until 11:30pm. Then things got pretty good. We got lucky with a couple good nets early and stayed pretty consistent between 10-20 per pull. But someone coming by did say the WI point had a lot of people and were doing real well. I would be happier with someone posting that was actually on the beach. The rumor mill can be a bad thing. The thing about the Point is that it's 6 miles long on the MN side. That's a lot of territory! Things could be poor in one area, and great a mile away! The actual park is at the end of the road by the airport. That's about 5 miles from the tot lot. In smelting terms, that's a whole world almost.
We haven't had any reports in 2 days now due to weather! It will be good to hear what's up after tonight. I'm thinking that I might make a run up on Wed evening. We shall see!
Angler's All Bait in WI has finally made a post on the their fishing report in regards to the smelt run. Some are thinking it's already over there...which would be odd since it seems as though it only "ran" for 3-4 days. It may be only the fact that the waters cooled down a bit and slowed things down temporarily. We shall see. But if that is the case, it could happen in Duluth as well, that's why we need some updates...2 days off is an eternity!!!
